serving women through faith

Answering the call to fully incorporate my faith into my birth business was a something I needed. What a blessing it has been to serve women in a way that reflects my love for Christ. That allows me to experience His goodness and presence in women's experiences.

I had dreamt of starting an online school for birth workers for many years, and it simply wasn't meant to happen until now. God's timing is so obvious to me as I slowly but faithfully unearth these teachings. My goal with this school is not only create birth workers who can serve women well, but who do so in a way that is centered in Christ. Here is a telling of when I experienced this remarkable moment of seeing the Lord's work during my time here in Minnesota as student midwife. I called everyone I knew to share my experience. What a joy it is to be able to share this story and testimony with you. 

One evening I was listening to a devotional while walking my dog. As we walked away from the setting sun the meditation discussed living for God's eternal purpose. Which felt deeply aligned as I continue to open my heart to fully living for his purpose.

At one moment the devotional prompted me to close my eyes and wait for the Lord to give me a name of someone I could pray over. Knowing I may not hear anything, I allowed my mind to go blank and listened carefully with my eyes closed tightly. Before my brain could process it, the name Veronica appeared. My eyes shot open in shock as I received this name. I almost couldn't believe it, and quickly I realized I didn't know anyone with that name. 

As we finished our walk and reared back to the sunset on the horizon, it dawned on me that I would soon hear someone say their name and have to gain the courage to pray over a complete stranger. At 1am, just seven hours later, I got a call to head to a birth just under an hour away. When I arrived the baby had just been born. We helped the mother settle into bed with her new babe before tucking ourselves into before the morning light. 

Around 11a we were called to the birth center for another labor. I hadn't met either of these women prior to assisting their births as a student. This family did not know if their baby would be a girl or a boy, with several excited siblings at home. Just before my shift ended she welcomed a beautiful baby in the water. As the room filled with the next birth team during shift change, the midwife said "okay mama, what is this baby girls name". Before my heart could prepare she said "Veronica". 

The blood left my face and I ran out of the room in tears. I tried to explain to the midwife that I needed to pray over this baby as the Lord gave me her name the evening before. When everyone left the room I drifted back in, explaining my experience to the family asking permission to pray over their baby. I laid one hand on her and shared a simple blessing, when I looked up the mother had tears falling from her face. It wasn't until after I realized what that must've meant for her. 

What a blessing it has been to serve families boldly in my Faith and to have seen the way God is reminding me of how I am on the right path. Thank you for reading this simple but profound experience. I would love to hear how the Lord is revealing His presence and goodness to you.
